Many years ago, I baked my very first loaf of bread on a ship in the Atlantic Ocean. It was in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, to be precise, which may account for my supernatural baking abilities, but you can come up with your own crazy theory about that.
I was lucky enough to have the adventure of a lifetime spending a college semester-at-sea with the Sea Education Association. Along with learning to sail and baking bread in the galley, we studied maritime history. One thing all the great voyages of exploration had in common was what the sailors ate. The ship's hold would be filled with hardtack: crackers that would last for years under the most deplorable conditions: the original road food!
Inspired by this idea, I created my Naturally Fermented Craft Beer Grain Crackers. Sourdough makes them taste better than hardtack, and beer grains add a boost of protein, nutrients, fiber, and flavor that would please any sailor out on a voyage of discovery.
So far, my crackers have traveled from coast-to-coast visiting nearly every state. They have been to France, Japan, Scotland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and probably many places I don't even know about.
