GRAIN ELEVATOR began as DeRego's Bread in 2013 when I began baking artisan bread and pastries for sale at the Starkville Community Market. In May of 2015, with a great deal of local support, the bakery on Main Street opened.
- My love of bread began with trips to the Portuguese bakeries during visits to my grandparents in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
- I baked my first loaf at sea on a research schooner!
- I have studied at the San Francisco Baking Institute.
- As a member of the Bread Bakers Guild of America I have attended workshops with many of my bread making heroes.
In early 2017, we completed a successful KickStarter campaign to announce our new line of Naturally Fermented Craft Beer Grain Crackers to the world shipping crackers to nearly every state. Since then, we have become members of the Mississippi Brewer's Guild and partnered with some of the largest brewers in the state on our mission to help them reduce waste.
In the summer of 2018 we completed our transition from retail bakery to packaged food brand with a new look and a new name: GRAIN ELEVATOR.
We strive to be a zero-waste operation, use the best natural products we can get our hands on, and grow in a manageable and sustainable way. We want to build something that will last and make the world just a little bit better than it was before.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share my craft with this community and the world!
